American Wagyu Beef – What Is It?
American Wagyu is created by crossing purebred Wagyu with traditional American breeds—such as Angus, Simmental, Charlette’s or others—to achieve the best of both worlds: the renowned smaller framed however buttery marbling of Wagyu and the bold larger framed American beef. The mix can achieve natural hybrid vigor. Offspring retain the prized qualities of both genetic lines which can result in better beef products.
Grass-Fed Beef – What Is It?
Our grass-fed beef comes from cattle that live on open range 24/7, from birth to market. They enjoy a variety of naturally growing forages, plenty of room to roam, and the fresh air and clean waters of the South Dakota Black Hills. In winter, we supplement with our own homegrown and harvested hay—but have significantly reduced our hay usage by adopting winter grazing practices.
We never use hormones, and our cattle take longer to mature without them. While this can increase our costs a bit, it also gives us full confidence in providing a natural, nutrient-dense product. We don’t compete with corporations who have the advantage of economy of scale to keep prices lower than ours trying to produce quality not quantity. We raise and process our beef locally including the butcher who boxes it up..
We believe low-stress living produces great-tasting beef. We also avoid commercial pasture spraying when possible, when needed we use targeted methods for invasive weeds (which rarely appear in healthy soils). Our ranch continually explores regenerative practices—like grazing sheep on plants cattle don’t prefer, introducing weed beetles and dung beetles, and working with nature to enhance soil health.
We partner with industry professionals to develop all-natural supplements—such as sea salt, natural minerals, and trace elements—to improve animal well-being and meat quality. Remember, beef is an excellent protein and vitamin source; there are many ways to raise healthy cattle, and this is ours.
Is Grass-Fed Beef Better for Me?
According to Dr. Rekha Mankad at the Mayo Clinic, grass-fed beef may have heart-health benefits beyond other types of beef. It often has:
- A more favorable lipid profile, including omega-3 fatty acids
- More conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which may reduce heart disease and cancer risks
- Higher levels of antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E

Think of grass-fed beef as a natural multivitamin and premium fuel for your body. Our cattle receive no antibiotics, hormones, or steroids—just fresh air, clean water, and nutritious grass. Occasionally, an animal might need medication; in that case, we identify and remove it from our “no-med” program. If you want vaccine-free beef, please reach out to us directly.
Are Grass-Fed Cows Treated Better?
In our opinion, yes. When cattle are raised on-site for their entire lives, stress is minimized, and social bonds are maintained. Familiar surroundings and faces mean calmer animals—and we believe that translates to better-tasting beef.
The beef industry overall has made great strides in improving animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and product quality. From improving animal welfare and ensuring safe, humane handling to addressing environmental challenges and enhancing supply chain productivity, many in the beef industry are committed to doing better.
Our cattle enjoy abundant fresh air, clean water, social time, and exercise—all of which benefits any living being. Today’s society struggles with mental, physical, and spiritual health, often forgetting that nutritious food, quality rest, exercise, and a positive mindset are essential. We believe addressing these foundations—starting with healthy, responsibly raised food—can make a difference.
Is Grass-Fed Better for the Environment?
We strive to reconnect our ecosystem much like the bison herds did for thousands of years in this region. Properly managed grazing can help store carbon in the soil, support plant diversity, and improve overall land health. Grass that isn’t grazed eventually dies, degrades, and releases carbon anyway—so responsible grazing practices can transform that process into a renewable food source that benefits the land.

Ongoing collaborations with organizations like the Audubon Society, State Game and Fish, and the World Wildlife Fund are helping ranchers across the country improve habitats for birds, wildlife, and future generations. From the air we breathe to the water we drink, many ranchers and farmers prioritize animal care and land stewardship to produce great products.
